Back at it again with traveling! It has been a serious while since I have posted a travel diary – the commute from Australia to ANY country is a long one, something that I miss about living in Europe last year. Nevertheless, I was fortunate enough to travel to Shanghai for just under a week with my parents: food was consumed, a lot of walking was done and I consumed a lot of lemon + peach water (ie: my favorite part of coming to Asia!). I have been to Beijing, Hong Kong and Xi’an previously (I was thirteen at the time) but I prefer Shanghai – bustling streets, although not overcrowded, clean and technological (although Instagram, Youtube, Google + the like are banned).
Sightseeing and exploring are my favourite part of going to a new country (apart from going to the convenience store and picking up snacks!) so I thought I would share some of my snaps from Shanghai! I did all the touristy things: Shanghai Tower, The Financial Building, A Food Tour (as well as a Walking Tour!) and The French Concession! I went to a tonne of nice restaurants – including 1921 Gucci, one of my top picks (you can see that on my instagram @elizabethandher).
Now let’s talk about the food: Shanghai uses Sichuan in most of their dishes – meats, as well as beancurd are their stable diet – as well as rice and noodles. My favourite dish from Shanghai was probably the potstickers: they are similar to a pan-fried dumpling crossed with a xi long bao (they are pictured below) as well as all the noodles: the beef ones are probably my favourite. We had hand-pulled noodles on the walking tour and they were incredible.
Apart from tourist goods and the wonderful food – I also took advantage of the shopping scene in Shanghai – particularly skincare and facemasks from the flagship store of Innisfree and Etude House as well clothing stores such as Pull & Bear, Zara and Uniqlo. I have a haul blog post coming soon!
Thus – here are my happy snaps from the trip – enjoy!
