Back at you with another foodie post! Today – Seven Seeds Coffee in Carlton. Tucked away in a little lane with graffiti (classic melbourne, amirite!) – Seven Seeds boasts a hefty brunch menu as well as specialty roasted coffee.
Known for bringing in Melbourne University students for study hours (they have nice big tables and a quiet atmosphere when it’s not a weekend!). My friends and I, however, decided to hit up Seven Seeds on a Saturday. Trying to find a table of eleven people on a Saturday may have proved a struggle for most places – but not Seven Seeds – managing to fit us all in on one of the communal tables near the back of the cafe.
I shared the French Toast + Breakfast Burger with C (oh my, they were both so good!) and my friends got a mixture of stuff – the baked eggs, poached eggs/scrambled eggs, egg’s benedict (lots of eggs!).
I’ll start with the Breakfast Burger – flavourful but slightly sweet (due to the sweet chili sauce), the housemade chorizo was the true winner in the burger. Paired with cheese, a fried egg (well done, because I don’t like my eggs runny *gasps* shock horror!) and cheddar. It was served on a panini-type bread – a perfect contrast against the hearty fillings.
The French Toast was the perfect ending to my brunch at Seven Seeds as well – light, sweet (not overly) – however, I don’t think I would be able to have it by itself unless I was in the mood for something sweeter. This French Toast, however, was particularly different because it was Peanut Butter and Jelly French Toast. Yep, you heard that right; Brioche French Toast with Peanut Butter Ganache, Mixed Berry Compote, Coffee/Chocolate Sauce as well as rhubarb and mixed berries. This one is pretty sinful so I wouldn’t eat it all the time – but it was a tasty one-time treat!
As per usual, I also had a coffee – they roast with their own house blend which changes frequently. Plus, they have almond milk (hurrah!). They also do public cupping at the Carlton Store which would be interesting (it allows you to refine your palette for different coffees side by side and appreciate different roasts).
